NWSG Code of Conduct
Be polite to our guests, volunteers, the Board of Directors, President, and fellow writers.
Give guests proper space and respect.
Respect and abide by the policies of the NWSG.
Violation may result in removal for improper, inappropriate, threatening, and/or unprofessional behavior from events and/or Guild Membership.
General conduct guidelines:
The following applies to all events and communications with NWSG:
- YOU ARE NOT ALONE: Remember that you are part of a larger community. We're a Guild for a reason. Your behavior reflects on you and your fellow members/writers.
- TIME AND SPACE: Give Guests proper space and time to themselves (especially during breaks). Do not hover or follow them around.
- 10-4 GOOD BUDDY: When communicating with professional contacts, do not email more than every two weeks. If you do not hear back after a few emails, do not harass guests. When communicating with NWSG, remember, we get a high volume of emails per day, read several scripts at any one time, and juggle the entire year's schedule on a daily basis. Be patient with everyone. Feedback is welcome, but keep it professional (not personal).
- R-E-S-P-E-C-T: Respect and abide by the policies of the NWSG (outlined throughout this site). Be respectful and polite to our Guests, Volunteers, the Board of Directors, President, and fellow writers. During the meetings, don't talk too loud, be sure to turn off your cell phone (or set to silent), and don't distract others while surfing the internet on your laptop.
- DESPERATION: Don't act desperate. This is always seen as a career killer.
- DEFENSIVE: Listen to Guest's feedback and thank them for their input. Do not defend your choices or make excuses.
- NO MEANS NO. If you are a non-member or Associate Member who would like to pitch a guest, but you have not been approved as a full Guild Member, please do not hound the Guest or Board Members so you may pitch. This will be seen as improper behavior, possibly resulting in your removal from the Guild. It is unfair to members who have done the work and submitted their scripts for review with ample time for review and rewrites prior to a pitching event.
Violation will result in removal for improper, inappropriate, threatening, and/or unprofessional behavior from events and/or Guild Membership.
